A Missouri girl, 3, succumbed to severe burns she sustained after a gas explosion that killed her father and hurt her mom, two siblings, and five other relatives earlier this week.
Authorities were called to the family’s Wyatt home after it caught flames on Monday. The toddler survived the blast that killed her father, identified as Corey Coleman, in the immediate aftermath.
The girl remained hospitalized at Vanderbilt University Medical Center in Nashville for days before she passed Thursday.
Her mom and 6-month-old sister were listed in critical condition. Her 1-year-old brother and the other relatives are in stable condition.
Investigators are suspecting that the source of the explosion was either a stove or a water heater – both propane-powered.
“It is pure 100% accident. Just a freak accident,” Mississippi County Sheriff’s Capt. Barry Morgan said.
