Four children killed in huge Iowa house fire; 2 survivors and 2 firefighters hurt

Authorities in Mason City, Iowa said that four children under the age of 12 were killed in a deadly house fire early Wednesday morning.

The single-family residence was fully engulfed in flames when firefighters arrived and it took 90 minutes to put the fire down.

Four children were rushed to the hospital where they later died; they were identified as John Michael Mcluer Jr., 12; Odin Thor Mcluer, 10; Drako Mcluer, 6; and Phenix Mcluer, 3.

  • Two other residents of the home were found outside suffering burns; they were identified as John Mcluer, 55, and Ravan Dawn Mcluer, 11.

    Authorities said that two firefighters sustained injuries while working at the scene. The cause of the deadly fire remains unclear.

    “Our condolences to the family and friends of the Mcluer family that have suffered this loss,” Mason City Police and Fire Department said in a statement.
