An innocent baby was shot and killed in his stroller while with his mother as she and her boyfriend walked down a Merced, California street Wednesday afternoon.
The 9-month-old boy did not survive his injuries after bullets sprayed the family from a passing car at around 12:30 p.m.
The horrified mom took her baby to a McDonald’s where he was pronounced dead. Police believe one of the child’s parents was the actual target.
“We don’t know what the motive is,” Lt. Joseph Perez said. “At this point, it’s possible that maybe one of the parents was a possible target and the child was just tragically caught in the crossfire.”
Authorities have not identified a suspect as of Friday morning. The child’s great-aunt said that the mother was “still in denial.”
“She is taking it very hard. She is still in denial. She is still thinking that it’s not true,” the woman said.
“He didn’t deserve to go like this, especially this soon. He was just starting to enjoy food and being mobile,” the baby’s aunt added.
