California toddler, 3, dies of fentanyl overdose; mom charged

San Luis Obispo authorities charged a 30-year-old mother with child endangerment after her 3-year-old son passed away from a fentanyl overdose seven months ago.

Jennifer Mae Niemann was present at the home in the 1600 block of Mill Street on May 4 when police officers rushed to save an unresponsive boy at around 10:15 p.m.

  • Despite life-saving measures provided at the scene, the boy died hours later at a local hospital with toxicology results revealing he was a victim of “a fatal level of fentanyl in his system.”

    Following months of investigation, authorities gathered evidence confirming that “Niemann’s actions allowed access to fentanyl which directly led to the child’s death.”

    Niemann, who was described as a transient, was arrested in San Diego and charged with child endangerment with great bodily injury and causing great bodily injury during the commission of a felony.
