Hennepin County news, Minnesota news.

An innocent boy died in May from a suspected drug overdose after chewing on a dollar bill belonging to his drug-user mother.

Brittany Ferrell was charged in connection to 6-year-old Oaklee Hirsch’s death after he was found unresponsive with blue lips in his mother’s bedroom.

Oaklee’s father tried to revive his son by administering two doses of Narcan and performing CPR but the boy died shortly later.

The father told detectives that a dollar bill was near his son’s body and that he suspected it had drug residue on it due to “burn marks.”

  • “The dollar bill in question had burn marks on it, was missing a corner as if it had a bite mark, and was wet to the touch and flat,” court records revealed.

“[The man] believed the dollar bill was [Ferrell’s] because it was in her bedroom.”

Oaklee suffered from developmental issues and was autistic which meant that he tended to chew on newspapers and bills.

The Hennepin County Medical Examiner’s Office revealed that the boy died from “acute fentanyl toxicity.” Both parents admitted to using drugs before the incident.
