South Carolina man ransacks ex-girlfriend’s home; steals mom’s ashes to sell for drugs

A 19-year-old South Carolina man was arrested Thursday, hours after he sent his ex-girlfriend a text telling her he would be selling her mom’s ashes for heroin.

Jackson Rutland was charged with destruction, desecration, or removal of human remains as well as burglary.

    The woman claimed that the rear door was destroyed and some of the ashes were spread on the floor.

    “I’ve never heard of anything like that,” Aiken County Sheriff Capt. Eric Abdullah said adding that it was unclear how Rutland planned to sell the ashes.
