NYC apartment building catches fire injuring 38 residents

Authorities in New York were responding to a three-alarm fire early Saturday after an apartment building in Manhattan caught fire wounding nearly forty people.

New York City Fire Department officials said that the fire broke out on the 20th floor of the building near East 52nd Street and First Avenue at around 10:30 a.m.

    “Fire EMS and dispatch did an extraordinary job rescuing a number of civilians,” FDNY Commissioner Laura Kavanaugh said.

    “I cannot emphasize enough the extraordinary work of our members this morning in unbelievably dangerous conditions.”
