Mass. murder suspect takes own life by ingesting battery acid after crime

The suspected murderer of a Massachusetts woman took his own life immediately after the crime by ingesting battery acid, authorities said.

Brockton Police officers responded to a residence near Crescent and Lyman streets at around 1 p.m. Wednesday over reports of a woman bleeding in a driveway.

Veronica Goncalves, 48, died at the scene from obvious trauma wounds to her head. Her ex-boyfriend, Joao Correia, 56, was inside the home.

    An investigation was launched by local and state authorities. A cause of death for Correia is being determined by the chief medical examiner.

    Local news outlets reported that the victim’s 2-year-old granddaughter was with her inside a car at the time of the attack, but was unharmed.
