A Michigan man was arrested last week after crashing a stolen pickup truck with its owner’s dead body in the truck bed, police said.
The Thursday fender bender revealed a carjacking and a suspicious and led to the arrest of Stephen Lee Freeman, 19, on concealing a dead body charges.
Police said that 62-year-old Gabriele Seitz’s body was found covered in the bed of the pickup truck with “obvious strangulation signs” including a shoelace still wrapped around her neck.
The victim’s son said that the truck belonged to Seitz and that she likely did not know Freeman.
“He was going to go somewhere with my mom’s body. He could have dumped it somewhere and he could’ve taken the truck and taken it to a junkyard and had it crushed and I would not know where my mom would be,” he said.
He added that his late mother was “the sweetest person alive that everyone loved.”
Freeman’s charges may be updated to murder pending the results of an ongoing investigation.
