A tragic murder-suicide incident took place Friday in Brooklyn when a 52-year-old man jumped to his death after killing his girlfriend inside an apartment.
Officers were at the scene on 6th Avenue near 53rd Street in Sunset Park at around 2 a.m. after a man reported concerning “commotion” inside the couple’s fourth-floor apartment.
The lifeless body of a 61-year-old woman was found in the hallway of the apartment with several cuts on the head, neck, and upper torso.
Paramedics pronounced her dead at the scene where a bloody knife, hammer, and screwdriver were also found.
Police located the woman’s boyfriend “unconscious and unresponsive” outside the building, lying on the ground.
Investigators believe the man, who also was declared dead on scene, had jumped from the apartment after the murder. A knife was found near his body.
The couple was not immediately identified pending next-of-kin notification. The incident is being investigated as a murder-suicide.
