The Texas death row inmate who defied state prison rules preventing him from having a pastor present at the death chamber during his execution was executed Wednesday.
John Henry Ramirez, 38, was convicted of murdering Pablo Castro, 46, in 2004 while he removed trash from a convenience store where he worked.
“I have regret and remorse,” Ramirez told his victim’s relatives who attended the execution.
“This is such a heinous act. I hope this finds you comfort. If this helps you, then I am glad. I hope in some shape or form this helps you find closure.”
Ramirez began snoring a few instants after getting the lethal injection of pentobarbital. He was pronounced dead 14 minutes late at 6:41 p.m.
Ramirez fought to have his faith leader pray and touch him during the execution; something he was ultimately granted.
“Look upon John with your grace,” Pator Dana Moore said aloud while placing his right hand on Ramirez’s chest. “Grant him peace. Grant all of us peace.”
