5 dead in shooting spree in McGregor neighborhood

Two women and three children were the victims of a massacre in a McGregor, Texas home early Thursday morning.

Initial reports said that the gunman opened fire at his wife and her two children with police confirming that another woman and her teen daughter were also fatally shot just before 8 a.m.

The suspect was shot by officers and brought to a hospital in an unknown condition. Relatives of the family identified two of the deceased as Lori and Natalie Aviles.

  • “A coward with a gun took my sister and beautiful niece’s lives just for being outside of their own home,” Leon Olvera said. “This feels like a bad dream but our family is strong and we will remain strong for you sis.”

    McGregor ISD Superintendent James Lenamon said that the incident was “a domestic disturbance that resulted in a shooting.” It was later revealed that the incident involved two side-by-side homes.

    “This terrible and senseless act of violence has devastated our town,” McGregor Mayor Jimmy Herring said. “While the families are being notified of the details, we ask that you keep them, the officers, and the community of McGregor in your thoughts and prayers.”
