Mass. woman killed landlord, hid body after victim confronted her about forged checks

Police in Newton, Massachusetts arrested a woman who admitted to killing her ex-landlord after he confronted her about forged checks.

The family of 65-year-old Leonard Garber reported him missing on Sept. 26 telling police that he had recently been in contact with a former tenant identified as Xiu Fang Ke.

The 43-year-old suspect admitted to killing Garber with a hammer after he learned that she had been forging checks from accounts belonging to him.

    Fang Ke was arrested without incident. She reportedly talked about being suicidal and having gambling debts on a chat group.

    “Mr. Garber was a member of our community,” Newton Mayor Ruthanne Fuller said. “He attended synagogue here; he had friends and neighbors who knew and cared about him. You, too are in our thoughts.”
