Residents of a quiet Middletown neighborhood were horrified to learn that a “very nice” neighbor killed her partner and requested the help of her daughter’s boyfriend to chop up the body.
It was 33-year-old John Havens who uncovered the grisly murder earlier this week when he went to police headquarters and told officers that he helped mutilate 55-year-old Jeffrey Fellman’s body.
Havens alleged that his girlfriend’s mother Bonnie Marie Vaughn, 59, had shot the man dead before asking him to help her dispose of the body.
He added that he used a handsaw to dismember the victim. Officers discovered the gruesome scene with the mutilated body in a room on the first floor. Vaughn was not home when police arrived but was arrested shortly later.
“This is one of those shocking crimes that occur, that is very rare,” Middletown Police Major Eric Crank said.
A neighbor of the family described Vaughn as a “nice” woman who sometimes seemed “a little bit off.”
“You know, sometimes she didn’t always appear to have it all cognitively maybe together. But yeah, I mean, she was very nice. Bonnie was always very nice.”
