Hurricane Ian’s ‘extremely dangerous’ eyewall moving onshore at Sanibel & Captiva Islands

Hurricane Ian was is moving onshore at Sanibel and Captiva Islands, bringing extreme winds and rainfall, the National Hurricane Center said Wednesday.

Extreme wind warnings were issued for Englewood, Rotonda, and Grove City and will be in effect until 2 p.m. EDT.

    Acting NHC Director Jamie Rhome urged residents of these areas not to venture outside.

    “You really have to get into the interior of your house and ride this part out. Conditions are going downhill today. So, get wherever you need to be up along the I-4 corridor and stay there,” he said.
