As Category 3 storm Ian gets closer to Florida; Gov. DeSantis warns of ‘catastrophic’, ‘life-threatening’ flooding

Early Tuesday, Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis warned of “catastrophic” and “life-threatening” flooding potential as Hurricane Ian becomes a category 3 storm and gets closer to the Sunshine State.

“What we have here is really historic storm surge and flooding potential. In some areas, there will be catastrophic flooding and life-threatening storm surges,” the Governor said.

  • The hurricane is also expected to bring destructive winds within the less than 35 hours that separate it from reaching Florida. Tampa and St. Petersburg will likely be the hardest hit areas.

    “Mother Nature is a very fearsome adversary. So please heed those warnings,” DeSantis added.

    “Make sure you are executing your plan. This is imminent. I would just tell all Floridians who are in the path of this that there is going to be interruptions in things like power. There’s going to be interruptions in fuel. There may be interruptions in communications.”
