The wife of a slain Missouri man admitted to shooting him to death in bed, claiming that she “couldn’t afford a divorce.”
50-year-old Etienne L. McEwan was found unresponsive in a pool of his blood at around 1 a.m. Wednesday.
40-year-old Melanie Biggins was reportedly performing CPR on him when officers arrived.
She initially told detectives that she was awakened by a gunshot and turned on a light to find him injured.
After questioning two other residents of the Kansas City home, investigators learned that Biggins looked as if she “had seen a ghost” following the shooting.
Biggins ultimately confessed to killing McEwan because she wanted to divorce but couldn’t afford the charges.
She was arrested on first-degree murder and armed criminal action and booked into the Jackson County Detention Center.
