Four people were found dead in a rural northeast North Dakota county on Monday leaving residents of nearby towns in shock.
The locals declined to talk about the horrific incident as they join forces to harvest the victims’ fields and support those impacted.
Towner County Sheriff Andy Hillier who had been with the department since 2004 said he never had to deal with such an incident before.
“This is the first,” he said of the triple murder-suicide that occurred on the evening of Aug. 29 in a wheat field.
Deputies assumed that the four victims were working at the field before one, found in possession of a firearm, opened fire killing the others and themselves. Farm equipment at the scene was also riddled with bullets.
Investigators declined to identify the deceased pending next-of-kin notification.
