The body of a slain 99-year-old woman remains unaccounted for after she was murdered in November by her grandson.
West Valley Police are asking residents and hunters to report any information about remains that may be related to Marlen Carlson’s murder.
Carlson’s grandson, 51-year-old Shaun Cunningham, took his own life in jail last March after his wife revealed gruesome details of unbearable torture he inflicted on his grandmother before stabbing her to death.
Cunningham, according to his wife, used to burn Carlson with cigarettes, cut her with knives and glass, threw her down the stairs, and even threatened to shoot her with a gun.
On November 2, Cunningham used a piece of her wrecked walker to stab her and when she didn’t die, he stabbed her in the chest using a knife.
The terrified woman told investigators that Cunningham then wrapped the body in plastic and threatened to kill her if she reported his crime.
His phone data placed him in the area of the Uinta Mountains, making police believe Carlson’s remains may be there. The body may be in a black garbage bag.
Anyone with information about Carlson’s remains’ whereabouts is asked to call West Valley City Police at 801-840-4000 and submit the site’s coordinates.
