A California musician and his wife were found dead on a dirt trail in the Mojave Desert east of California City, authorities said.
Larry and Betty Petree were located Sunday afternoon, according to the Kern County Sheriff’s office.
Larry was in the driver’s seat while Betty’s body was found leaning against the rear tire. Foul play is not suspected in their deaths.
Larry, 88, was a beloved musician who played pedal steel guitar with the band Soda Crackers. He and his wife were married for more than six decades.
“He always had a smile on his face,” a friend of the late artist said. “He was just a sweetheart of a guy and he was always there to help other people. I just can’t believe they’re gone and in such a bizarre fashion.”
