Minnesota dad told 5 children to go to basement before killing wife, himself

A Minnesota couple was found dead in a St. Paul residence late Tuesday in what is being investigated as a tragic murder-suicide.

Yia Xiong, 33, killed his 30-year-old wife Ka Lor after telling their five children to go play in the basement, police said.

“The father asked the five kids to go down in the basement, just go play or whatever. The older son heard three gunshots,” Xiong’s brother said.

  • The couple had been married for 10 years and had five children ranging in age from 2 to 9. The family was recently on a summer camping trip.

    “I just wish he could’ve given me a call,” the grieving brother said recalling his last conversation with Xiong. “We were joking; there’s no voice or change that I would’ve known that you know what would happen.”

    “Stable house, stable job – my brother worked, my sister-in-law worked, kids going to school and stuff like that. his kids are his heart, his world.”
