‘Tremendous teammate & better person’: FIU football player dies suddenly at age 22

The football community in Florida is in mourning after the sudden passing of FIU linebacker Luke Knox at the age of 22.

Knox, who is the younger brother of Buffalo Bills tight end Dawson Knox, studied business and played 23 games at Mississippi from 2018 to 2021 before joining the Panthers.

“Words cannot express the heartfelt sorrow we feel because of the passing of our teammate and friend Luke Knox,” FIU coach Mike MacIntyre said.

  • “I had the honor of coaching Luke at Ole Miss and FIU. While admired his passion for football, his genuine love for his family and teammates is what I will always remember.”

    Ole Miss coach Lane Kiffin also paid tributes to the late player on Thursday adding that he was grateful for the time spent with Luke.

    “There are heavy hearts throughout our football team after the passing of Luke Knox. He was a tremendous teammate and an even better person who lifted up everyone around him.”
