A horrific alligator-related death is being investigated by Beaufort County Sheriff’s Office after an elderly woman was killed by a 9 foot 8 inches alligator in a gated senior living community.
Nancy Becker, 88, slipped into the alligator-infested pond at around 11:15 a.m. while gardening, authorities said.

Another resident of the Sun City Hilton Head community spotted her body at the edge of the water with the massive reptile “guarding” the remains.
“When we responded, that’s what we observed – that the alligator was basically holding her hostage, I guess,” Major Angela Viens said.
The recovery of the body took Department of Natural Resources officials around two hours. The male gator was also captured.
