Elderly woman killed after slipping into pond, getting caught by 10-ft long alligator

A horrific alligator-related death is being investigated by Beaufort County Sheriff’s Office after an elderly woman was killed by a 9 foot 8 inches alligator in a gated senior living community.

Nancy Becker, 88, slipped into the alligator-infested pond at around 11:15 a.m. while gardening, authorities said.

    “When we responded, that’s what we observed – that the alligator was basically holding her hostage, I guess,” Major Angela Viens said.

    The recovery of the body took Department of Natural Resources officials around two hours. The male gator was also captured.
