Bronx teen, 14, left to die by friends after accidental shooting: ‘They should’ve stood by his side’

A 14-year-old boy is dead and another is in custody facing murder charges after an accidental shooting in the lobby of a Bronx apartment building Thursday.

Jacob Borbon didn’t survive his injuries after he was shot at around 1:05 a.m. Thursday, while hanging out with three friends two miles away from his home, in Fordham Heights.

  • Authorities said that the surveillance camera in the building was covered with black paint but nearby surveillance footage caught three juveniles fleeing the scene.

    A 14-year-old boy was later arrested and charged with intentional homicide, depraved indifference, and manslaughter.

    “They should’ve called 911 and stood by his side if they were his friends,” the victim’s stepdad said. “They should’ve reached out to somebody instead of leaving him.”
