Missouri man shoots neighbor dead for complaining of him mowing lawn too early

A Missouri man killed his neighbor on Monday, putting a tragic end to a decade-long dispute over mowing the lawn too early in the morning.

Samuel Avery, 42, is accused of shooting Alexander Trotter, 41, to death on his front porch before calling 911.

Avery told investigators that prior to the fatal shooting, Trotter had again complained about him mowing the lawn too early before waving a gun toward him in a threatening manner.

  • The suspect added that he reported the incident to the police but was not taken seriously. Hours later, the pair argued again and as Trotter reached for his gun, Avery repeatedly shot him.

    First responders confirmed that Trotter had a gun in his waistband when he was shot.

    Avery’s bond was set at $100,000 and he was put on house arrest with a tracking device. He was also ordered to attend a drug/alcohol dependency program.
