The mother of a newborn boy killed by his father at a Motel 6 on Thursday revealed that the man did so because he was “jealous” of the attention the baby was getting.
Santana Robinson’s mom told investigators that she woke up to find her one-month-old son dead and that she suspected 33-year-old Jamal Robertson to be behind the death.
The mother added that Robertson would beat the baby for crying and shook him out of jealousy; when she tried to intervene, the man would beat her as well.
“Santana did not ask to come into this world,” she said. “He’s just a little baby. You could have taken it out on me, not him.”
Robertson was charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, being a felon in possession of a firearm, and aggravated assault of a family member.
