Missing Tenn. college student found dead in North Carolina’s Great Smoky Mountains National Park

A missing Tennessee college student and National Guardsman was found dead on Friday in a remote area of Great Smoky Mountains National Park in North Carolina.

Bryce Evans, 23, was reported missing earlier this week. He was last seen alive on July 31, hiking in the Cherokee area.

  • His remains were found around Balsam Mountain approximately 20 yards off-trail on Friday, just before noon. His car was also located around 1.5 miles away.

    “He told his sister that he was going to work out at the TRECS Gym at UTK and that he might drive to Charlotte after,” Knoxville Police Spokesman Scott Erland said.

    “Apparently, there is no record of Bryce’s card being used at the gym, he did not sign in for his internship at UNC and his phone goes straight to voicemail as well.”
