A lightning strike near the White House claimed the lives of two Wisconsin residents and left two others in critical condition late Thursday.
The deceased victims were identified as 76-year-old James Mueller and 75-year-old Donna Mueller. Both were killed in the strike while visiting Lafayette Park.
According to D.C. Fire and EMS, the four victims were found in “the vicinity of a tree.” The survivors sustained “life-threatening injuries.”
“We are saddened by the tragic loss of life after the lightning strike in Lafayette Park,” WH Press Secretary Karine Jean-Pierre said.
“Our hearts are with the families who lost loved ones, and we are praying for those still fighting for their lives.”
