A record-breaking heat wave is scheduled to hit the Northeast with heat advisories issued for roughly 70 million Americans starting Thursday.
The National Weather Service projects temperatures to reach 99 degrees in Boston, 101 degrees in Hartford, 100 degrees in Newark, and exceed the 2006 record of 94 degrees in New York City.

“I urge everyone to stay cool and safe, and check on your neighbors during the week,” Boston Mayor Michelle Wu said.
The NWS also predicted thunderstorms for the weekend as a result of intense heat and humidity.
During last week’s heat wave that broke records across the Northwest, more than a dozen people were declared dead in connection to the dangerously hot weather.
