Louisiana father in custody after toddler dies of heroin overdose

A Louisiana father was charged with cruelty to a juvenile and other counts after he left heroin with his toddler in a car resulting in the child’s overdose.

On July 27, Golden Meadow Police responded to reports of an unresponsive child and found a bystander performing CPR on the victim.

  • The child was stabilized and airlifted to New Orleans after it was determined that they suffered an opioid overdose, authorities said.

    Investigators later learned that the child’s father, 41, had left heroin in the vehicle within the reach of his unattended toddler.

    He was arrested at the hospital and booked into the Lafourche Parish Correctional Complex in Thibodeaux with his bond set at $56,000.
