An 11-month-old boy was found unresponsive in a hot car Tuesday after his mom forgot him there for an “extended period” of time while she worked.
The mother had “inadvertently” left the baby in the backseat of the parked vehicle as temperatures in Tallahassee exceeded 90 degrees.
“Being in a vehicle for any certain amount of time will take anyone’s temperature up by any number of degrees and for children, their bodies heat up by 3 to 5 times faster than adults,” according to Safe Kids Big Bend.
The boy was pronounced dead at the scene; an investigation into the incident was launched and detectives will be presenting their conclusion to the State Attorney’s Office to consider filing charges.
