A Lincoln man was fatally shot on a boat at Branched Oak Lake Marina late Tuesday, Lancaster County Sheriff’s Office said.
Benjamin Case was killed at around 11:30 p.m. when a gunman walked onto the boat from a dock. The 42-year-old victim was with four of his friends at the time of the killing.
“Five people were socializing, having a little party on this boat. They feel somebody walk on the boat and the victim opens the door to the cuddy cabin and immediately gets shot twice,” police said.
The four other people had to jump into the water to hide while the suspect took off in a car; the victim was pronounced dead at the scene.
“Terribly tragic situation,” Sheriff Terry Wagner said adding that the shooter seemed to target his victim.
“He knew where he was headed. It wasn’t a random situation, we don’t believe.”
