Hero Mississippi teen, 16, saves 3 girls & police officers from drowning in Pascagoula River

A Mississippi teen is hailed a hero after he saved the lives of three teenage girls and a police officer who were going to drown in the Pascagoula River in Moss Point.

of the girls was behind the wheel of a vehicle, following GPS, when she lost control and drove off a boat launch into the water at around 2:30 a.m. Sunday.

Luckily for her and her two young passengers, 16-year-old Corion Evans was in the area and spotted the three terrified teen girls on the roof of the vehicle that had started sinking.

  • Evans jumped to the rescue before he was joined by Officer Garry Mercer; the cop was trying to help a panicked girl when she caused him to briefly sink and swallow water.

    In the end, Evans managed to bring Mercer and all three girls to the shore; for his exceptional heroism, The teen received a commendation from the Moss Point Chief of Police and the town’s Mayor.

    “We commend Mr. Evans’ bravery and selflessness he displayed by risking his own safety to help people in danger,” Police Chief Brandon Ashley said.

    “If Mr. Evans had not assisted, the situation could have turned out differently, instead of all occupants being rescued safely.”
