‘The Godfather’ star James Caan dead at age of 82: Family says

Actor James Caan, “The Godfather” legend, passed away Wednesday at the age of 82, according to a statement on his Twitter account.

“It is with great sadness that we inform you of the passing of Jimmy on the evening of July 6.”

“The family appreciates the outpouring of love and heartfelt condolences and asks that you continue to respect their privacy during this difficult time,” the late star’s family said.

  • Caan’s film industry career as an actor started in the 60s with roles in Howard Hawks’ films “Red Line 7000”, “El Dorado” and “Brian’s Song”, a TV movie that earned him an Emmy nomination.

    He also contributed with notable roles in the films “The Gambler”, “A Bridge Too Far”, and “The Elf” among others; but Caan was best known for his role as Sonny Corleone in “The Godfather.”

    Caan was honored with a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame in 1978. His ultimate film role is in the 2023’s Fast Charlie, an action-crime-thriller movie that is currently listed in post-production.
