The father of a Virginia boy who died in a hot car Tuesday has reportedly taken his own life shortly afterward, police said.

After realizing that he had forgotten the 18-month-old baby in the backseat of a hot car for about three hours, the father returned to his Chesterfield County home and brought the baby inside the residence.

“But we would be remiss to not take an opportunity for people to realize how important it is to obviously check your vehicles.”
