A Columbus, Georgia toddler was found dead in his car seat after spending three hours in his grandmother’s hot car on Sunday as temperatures hit the 90s.
Kendrick Engram Jr.’s uncle made the discovery of his nephew’s body in a Wendy’s parking lot at around 8 p.m. when his mother called to tell him about the missing 3-year-old boy.
The woman had taken Kendrick and other children to church that morning and returned home at around 5:30 p.m. leaving the child strapped to his car seat for nearly three hours.
“There were signs that he had tried to climb out,” Muscogee County Coroner Buddy Bryan said noting that Kendrick died of asphyxiation.
Kendrick is the seventh child to die in a hot car in the US this year.
