Toddler drowns in Lake Cushman after car with 2 adults goes into water

A toddler died Monday evening after the car they were riding along with two adults plunged into Lake Cushman in Washington, police said.

Officers were at the scene of the popular “Party Rock” recreational area at around 7:10 p.m. after “callers advised that a vehicle had gone over the embankment and was submerged below the water.”

    The victim was secured in a car seat which complicated the rescue; lifesaving measures went unsuccessful and the driver of the car was arrested on vehicular manslaughter charges.

    The “Party Rock” is an extremely overused recreational area with unsafe conditions and endless traffic jams. Police said that it “can be a dangerous area and people die up there every year.”
