Texas mom arrested after toddler drowns in bathtub as she texted relatives

A Texas mother was arrested over the January death of her one-year-old child whom she left in a bathtub with the water running and went texting relatives.

Victoria Tristan, 21, now faces a first-degree felony after an investigation revealed that she left the baby unattended in the bathtub leading to their death.

The mom told police that she had washed the child off when she walked away to take some rest on a bed and text a family member.

  • She said that she fell asleep for a few minutes before she woke up and went to check on the baby, the affidavit added.

    The child was unresponsive in the filled bathtub. She tried CPR to no avail before calling 911.

    The affidavit revealed that Tristan texted for five minutes and went inactive for eight minutes before she searched YouTube for around four minutes and finally called 911.

    According to the Travis County Coroner, the child’s death was a result of accidental drowning.
