South Carolina man killed by alligator that dragged him into pond

South Carolina authorities said that a Horry County man was horrifically killed by an alligator that dragged him into a retention pond outside Beach.

The man’s body was recovered from the water at around noon Friday by the Horry County Fire Rescue, the State Department of Natural Resources, and officers.

  • Investigators determined that the alligator “took a hold of a neighbor who was near the edge of a retention pond and retreated” back to the waters.

    “Our hearts go out to the family and community members impacted by this tragic incident, the HCPD said.

    Authorities removed the reptile from the pond and euthanized it. The HCPD and Criminal Investigations Division are probing the horrific incident.
