A Florida man is shocked and saddened after he suddenly lost his beloved dog Toby during a game of fetch earlier this month when a massive gator jumped out of the water and devoured it alive.
The 40-pound black Labrador retriever mix never had a chance when the 9’2” alligator came out of the blue and grabbed its head before devouring it.
Wells said that the poor dog was looking for a tennis ball in the water and did not notice the monster preying on him under the surface.
“Boom, the water just sort of exploded,” the man recalls. “He never barked. He never saw it. It took him down like it was nothing.”
Florida Wildlife Conservation Officer Benjamin Johnson along with a professional trapper looked for the reptile for two hours before locating it with a 6’6” alligator.
Toby’s remains were retrieved and returned to the devastated owner. But Wells noted when he and Toby used to come to the area; he would see all neighborhoods’ children playing there, near the pond.
“There’s cul-de-sacs, you’re not expecting a gator to come out and eat your dog,” he said.
