Authorities in Jersey City are investigating the “suspicious death” of a 3-year-old boy who was brought to a hospital early Tuesday and died hours later.
According to WNBC, the toddler’s mother ran screaming for help outside her home and told a passing off-duty EMT that her son was gasping for air.
The EMT tried to revive the boy and took him to Christ Hospital at around 6:30 a.m. where the mom told a nurse that he had recently been struggling to breathe.
But doctors at the hospital determined that the child had several broken bones and was visibly malnourished. The toddler died just before 10 a.m.
Prosecutors said that they are awaiting autopsy results to file charges over the boy’s death. Detectives are gathering surveillance footage and neighbors’ statements.
