Woman hiking on popular Philly trail discovers lifeless body of man shot at point-blank range

The slain body of a young man was found on a popular Philadelphia hiking trail on Sunday by a woman who tried to help and called a medic.

The shock discovery was made after 8 p.m. at the Juniata Park section of the city, police said.

After she spotted the body, the woman asked a medic on East Wingohocking Street if they could help the victim.

  • However, the victim was pronounced dead from at least one gunshot wound to the head.

    Investigators were alerted and they recovered the body with the assistance of the fire department due to the location being yards below an overpass.

    Police believe the victim is in his early 20s and are working to identify him; they said that he had a gun on him that was not used during the crime.
