A late Friday boat collision left two people dead after all 12 passengers aboard were “launched out of their boats” into the water, the US Coast Guard said.
The crash took place at around 10:30 p.m. Friday off the coast of Key Biscayne and prompted a helicopter crew response, the Miami-Dade Fire Rescue said.
One of the victims was pronounced dead at the scene while the other died at the Ryder Trauma Center.
Two of the injured were listed in “critical” condition and all were rushed to area medical facilities for treatment.
“Some people [were] screaming in English, in Spanish, asking for help, there were seven. They were saying that they couldn’t swim and asking for help,” an eyewitness said.
“We saw a lady holding an infant and then we saw a girl who couldn’t swim so we threw some life jackets. There was also a body, a body floating.”
