2 dead, 5 injured in shooting that targeted family barbecue in San Antonio

San Antonio authorities are investigating a fatal shooting that left two people dead and five others wounded during a family barbecue late Saturday.

Officers responded to the scene at around 10:15 p.m. over reports of a shooting in a front yard where a family was having a barbecue.

The two victims were pronounced dead at the scene, police said. The others were taken to a hospital for treatment.

  • “A family was barbecuing out in front of the house and someone drove by and unloaded on them, firing off about twenty or thirty rounds,” Police Chief Bill McManus said.

    “We have seven shot and two dead right now, two females, and the remaining five are men in their 20s to early 40s.”

    “Back in May, there was a deadly conduct incident at this house, a drive-by, but other than that we don’t have any incidents at this house.”

    McManus added that the shooting was likely targeting the family noting that six children were inside the residence but were luckily not harmed.
