Super Hornet Plane crashes in California desert; pilot killed

The Navy pilot of a F/A-18E Super Hornet plane was killed when the aircraft crashed in Trona, California Friday afternoon, authorities said.

The crash occurred at around 2:30 p.m. during a training mission, Navy officials said without identifying the deceased pilot who was reportedly from San Diego.

There were no reported injuries at the scene of the crash in the Mojave Desert, just east of Ridgecrest.
