Two young men are dead and two others are hospitalized after a horrific Tuesday morning car crash, days before their high school graduation.
Matthew Garcia and Marcello Saldua, both 18, were killed after their graduation rehearsal as they headed in a two-door vehicle to Ray High School in Corpus Christi, police said.
The two teens were sitting in the back of the car and were pronounced dead at the scene while the driver was found unresponsive and hospitalized in critical condition. The fourth teen sustained minor injuries and was interviewed by police.
“Our Texan community is devastated by this loss of our graduating seniors,” said Principal Roxanne Cuevas said.
“Our hearts go out to all the loved ones affected by this tragedy.”
An eyewitness told investigators that the doomed car was racing against another motorist when it lost control and hit a power pole.
