An Arizona man had allegedly admitted to placing dozens of animals alive in a freezer after authorities made the grisly discovery of 183 frozen animals in his home.
43-year-old Michael Patrick Turland was hit with 94 counts of animal cruelty charges after a woman called police two weeks ago to request an animal welfare check.
The woman told authorities that Turland had agreed to care for her snakes before he disappeared and that a new resident of his home discovered the freezer in the garage.
Authorities searched Turland’s garage and found the freezer packed with 183 frozen animals including dogs, turtles, lizards, rabbits, snakes, rats, mice, and birds.
“Several of the animals appeared to have been frozen alive due to their body positioning,” the Sheriff’s Office said.
On April 13, Turland showed up at the residence where deputies arrested him; during questioning, he admitted to “placing some of the animals in the freezer when they were still alive.”
