Disabled man, elderly mother killed in tragic house fire in Chinatown

A New York City man and his elderly mother died Friday in a tragic fire that engulfed their Chinatown apartment.

The 52-year-old disabled man was reportedly left to sleep by his health caretaker at around 3 a.m., and less than an hour later, flames caught his room.

The victim’s 91-year-old mother suffered severe burns and died at New York-Presbyterian Lower Manhattan Hospital, authorities said.

    “There was some collapse of the interior stairs – we had one firefighter fall through those stairs,” FDNY Deputy Assistant Chief John Sarrocco said.

    An investigation is underway to determine the cause of the deadly blaze.
