A Philadelphia man accused of shooting two women had turned the gun on himself after barricading himself in an apartment from where he shot a transit police officer.
At around 7 p.m. Wednesday, police responded to reports of a man who had shot two women in the Frankford sections of the city.
When police arrived, the gunman barricaded himself inside an apartment and began shooting at officers from a window. A SEPTA police officer was shot in the chest during the shootout.
After emptying his 15-round Glock, the gunman shot himself in the head and was found dead in the apartment. The officer and the two other victims were expected to survive.
“Here we are again…another night in our city,” Philadelphia Police Spokesman Sgt. Eric Gripp said.
“Just this completely and totally unacceptable and reckless gun violence nearly took three innocent people’s lives, and we’re so grateful it wasn’t worse.”
