Authorities in Sacramento are still processing the bloody scenes of a deadly mass shooting that was strewn across two blocks leaving at least six people dead and a dozen others injured early Sunday.
The bloodshed started shortly after 2 a.m. near the 1000 block of K Street. Police Chief Kathy Lester said that the investigation is in its very early stages and that it was not clear if the victims were targeted or how many shooters perpetrated the massacre.
“Words can’t express my shock and sadness this morning,” Sacramento Mayor Darrell Steinberg said. “The numbers of dead and wounded are difficult to comprehend.”
“We await more information about exactly what transpired in this tragic incident. Rising gun violence is the scourge of our city, state, and nation, and I support all actions to reduce it.”
Governor Gavin Newsom also described the incident as a tragedy that left families with lost ones and a community in grief.
“The scourge of gun violence continues to be a crisis in our country, and we must resolve to bring an end to this carnage,” he added.
